Dr. Maggie Matear

Dr. Maggie Matear is the Interim President of Yukon University in Whitehorse, Yukon. She moved to Yukon in 2019 to assume the role of VP University Services and was appointed interim president in late 2020. She brings a range of experience to the role, including time as a community adult educator in remote Inuit and Indigenous community campuses, and ten years managing, developing, and teaching on-line and face-to-face college and university courses. She led a telecommunications social enterprise that established better broadband and cell service in northern Ontario, and as a partner in a consultancy, facilitated organizational development and strategic planning for educational institutions, First Nations organizations, municipalities, and government agencies. Currently she represents Yukon with the Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery initiative and the British Columbia Association of Institutes and Universities.

Dr. Matear holds a PhD in Management from Queen’s University and an MBA from Dalhousie University, as well as undergraduate degrees in Science (Waterloo) and Education (Western). Her research interests coalesce around issues of corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and marketing
